The core PPR pipe tools and PVC hand tools a plumber needs in Pakistan cost about Rs 5,600 together at Punjab Tools: a PPR pipe reamer bit set (Rs 1,200), a manual PVC pipe threading die kit (Rs 1,650), a 2-in-1 drill-powered pipe threader (Rs 1,250) and an 8-in-1 faucet and sink installer wrench (Rs 1,500). Add a step drill bit set and a cordless drill to drive the bits, and you can ream, thread, repair and fit taps without breaking more wall than you have to.

None of these replace a PPR fusion welding machine, because PPR joints are still heat-fused. These are the preparation, threading and repair tools that make that work faster and cleaner.

PPR Reamer: Clean Joints and Concealed Pipe Repairs

The PPR reamer set has three stepped, titanium-coated bits on 1/4-inch hex shanks, sized 15-19mm, 18-24mm and 24-31mm. Those steps line up with the 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch and 1-inch lines used in most Pakistani homes. Fitted to a drill, a bit trims the inside and outside of a cut pipe and removes the burrs that can block a fitting or spoil a fused joint.

A common use is repair. When a concealed line leaks at an elbow or tee buried in the wall, a plumber can cut the pipe and ream the old pipe stub out of the fitting so a new length can be fused in, instead of breaking out a large section of tiles and plaster.

  • Run the drill at low to medium speed and keep the bit square to the pipe.
  • Go slowly; plastic softens and grabs if you push too hard.
  • Clear every shaving before fusing or fitting, because plastic chips inside a line end up blocking taps and valves.

PVC Pipe Threading Tool: Manual Die Kit vs Drill-Powered Threader

Threaded plastic connections are common at taps, water tanks and motor connections. You have two ways to cut them.

The Professional PVC Pipe Threading Tool Kit (Rs 1,650) is a manual die stock set with 1/2", 3/4" and 1" dies that cut NPT threads in PVC, PPR and PE pipe. It is slower, but you feel every turn, which helps on old or brittle pipe.

The 2-in-1 Drill Powered Pipe Threader (Rs 1,250) fits a drill by its hex shank and cuts external threads on pipe ends and internal threads inside fittings, in the 3/4" size. That internal side is the rescue tool for a stripped or cross-threaded fitting in a wall: you re-cut the thread rather than break the wall. Run it at low to medium speed.

How to cut a clean thread with either tool:

  1. Cut the pipe square. An angled cut gives a crooked thread that leaks.
  2. Start the die straight and apply even pressure for the first few turns.
  3. With the manual kit, back off slightly every couple of turns to clear chips.
  4. Clean the thread, wrap it with thread tape and tighten firmly without forcing. Overtightened plastic threads split.

Faucet Installation Wrench: Basin Nuts and Under-Sink Work

Mounting nuts behind a basin or under a kitchen sink sit where normal spanners do not fit. The 8-in-1 Faucet and Sink Installer Wrench (Rs 1,500) has an extra-long open slot that slips over supply lines, 34mm and 40mm socket inserts and a metal head for faucet mounting nuts. It fits 2, 3, 4 and 6-tab basin nuts, angle valves, supply line connections and strainer baskets. A built-in spirit level helps line up fixtures, and the kit includes a T-bar extractor for removing broken inlet pipe threads.

As a faucet installation wrench it also protects chrome: the plastic inserts turn nuts without the scratches that pliers leave. To swap a basin tap, shut the angle valve, disconnect the supply hose, slip the slotted end over the hose and undo the mounting nut. Fit the new tap, line it up with the built-in bubble level, then run the nut down by hand before snugging it with the wrench. For other nuts and bolts, the 48-in-1 Universal Tiger Wrench (Rs 1,699) covers 8mm to 19mm in one tool, and a goti set handles heavier bolts.

Drilling Holes: Step Bits, Tiles and Walls

  • Plastic tanks, PVC and sheet metal: the HSS step drill bit set (Rs 1,250) cuts clean holes from 4mm to 32mm, with 15 steps on the largest bit. It suits tank connectors (check your connector's diameter first), metal cabinet bases and conduit entries.
  • Finished tiles: for pipe outlets, use a diamond core bit held by the Adjustable Glass & Tile Hole Locator (Rs 2,600), with hammer off and water cooling. Our tile installation tools guide explains the method.
  • Wall chasing (jhari): cutting channels in brick for pipes is rotary-hammer work in chisel mode. The MAX 26mm Heavy Duty Rotary Hammer Drill (Rs 15,000) has drill, hammer and chisel modes. If you are choosing a machine, read rotary hammer vs impact drill.

Which Drill Should Power These Bits?

The reamer bits and the threader use hex shanks that fit a standard drill chuck, and the step bits have a three-flat shank. Around water, a cordless drill is the safer choice: no mains cable lying in a wet bathroom and no extension board on a damp floor.

The 12V Compact Cordless Drill & Screwdriver Kit (Rs 4,200) has a 10mm keyless chuck, a variable speed trigger and 18+1 torque settings, which suits reaming and light threading at controlled speed. For repeated 1-inch work, or if you also drill brick and concrete, a 21V kit with a hammer mode has more in reserve. Our drill attachments guide shows more ways to get several jobs out of one drill.

If you must use a corded drill near water, plug it into an RCD-protected socket and keep connections off the wet floor. Our power tool safety guide explains why.

PPR pipe tools and other plumber tools in Pakistan do not have to be expensive. These kits use Punjab Tools prices:

  • Hand-tool kit (Rs 4,350): PPR reamer set, PVC threading die kit and faucet installer wrench.
  • Complete plastic-pipe kit (Rs 6,850): add the 2-in-1 drill-powered threader and the step drill bit set.
  • Ready-to-work kit (Rs 11,050): add the 12V Compact Cordless Drill to power the bits.
  • Bathroom and wall add-ons: the hole locator (Rs 2,600) for finished tiles and a rotary hammer for chasing.
