A working electrician tool kit for house wiring, ceiling fans and UPS installs starts at about Rs 5,050 at Punjab Tools for three core hand tools: combination pliers, a wire stripper and a multi-bit screwdriver. A fuller kit with a crimping plier, tool bag, step drill bits and a laser level comes to Rs 11,750 (October 2026). Add a tester screwdriver and a multimeter from your local electrical market, because we don't sell those, and you have everything most domestic jobs need.

This guide is for electricians and serious DIYers. For a general household set, see our home tool kit guide.

Wire Strippers: Which One to Buy

A proper stripper is the tool that saves the most time and the most copper. A knife or your teeth nick the strands, and a nicked conductor is a weak, hot spot waiting to fail. Here are the options we stock.

The Multifunctional Wire Stripper and Cable Cutter (Rs 1,250) is listed as a 7-in-1 tool with gauge-marked stripping notches at 0.8, 1.0, 1.3, 1.6, 2.0, 2.6 and 3.2mm, a cutting jaw, brass-ring ports for splitting double-core wire and twisting multi-strand wire, and a latch that keeps it closed in the bag. About 8 inches long. This is the best value pick if you strip wire all day.

The Electrician Combination Pliers 60CRV (Rs 1,600) are listed as 9-in-1 and forged from 60CRV chrome vanadium steel. They have AWG 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 stripping notches, cut hard wire up to 2.0mm and flexible wire up to 3.0mm, crimp non-insulated terminals from 0.5 to 4.0mm, and have a wavy centre jaw that holds nuts. If you only carry one plas, make it this one.

The Heavy Duty Multi-Functional Wire Stripper & Crimping Pliers (Rs 1,800) strip, cut, grip and crimp both insulated and non-insulated terminals, with serrated jaws and anti-slip handles. Its listing doesn't give a stripping range, so test it on an offcut of your usual wire.

The 5-in-1 Interchangeable Head Pliers Set (Rs 4,500) has one handle with five heads: wire cutter, wire stripper, crimper, tin shears and a curved cable cutter for thick multi-strand cable. It suits an electrician who also cuts sheet metal and heavier cables and wants one compact kit.

Matching the notch to Pakistani wire

House wire in Pakistan is sold by strand count, such as 3/29 or 7/29, not by the mm or AWG markings printed on strippers. Don't guess. Strip an offcut first: the right notch cuts the insulation cleanly and slides it off without marking the copper. If strands get nicked or cut, move up one notch. If the insulation won't come off, move down one.

Pliers and Crimping: Terminals, Lugs and Joints

A crimped terminal makes a better joint than wire twisted round a screw, especially on DB breakers, UPS terminals and fan connections that heat up under load. Use the crimping section of the plier, not the gripping jaws, because a flattened terminal works loose and runs hot.

Know the limits. The crimpers above are for small terminals; the 60CRV pliers list 0.5 to 4.0mm. Thick UPS and inverter battery cables need heavy lugs and a proper lug crimping tool, which we don't sell, so get one locally if you do battery work regularly.

Screwdrivers for Fans, Boards and UPS Covers

The 10-in-1 Multi-Angle Ratchet Screwdriver Set (Rs 2,200) has a head that pivots through 180° and locks at 45° and 90°, a three-way ratchet (forward, reverse and locked) and a magnetic 1/4-inch bit holder. Its 10 bits are PH0, PH1, PH2, PZ2, SL3.0, SL5.0, SL6.0, Y3, U6 and Triangle 2.3, stored in the handle. The bent head reaches screws inside fan canopies, behind DB covers and inside appliances where a straight driver won't fit.

It is not listed as an insulated screwdriver, so use it only on circuits you have switched off. If you want insulated screwdrivers as an extra layer of protection, buy a pair marked with a VDE or 1000V rating from a trusted local shop, and still switch the circuit off first.

Fan, UPS and Inverter Jobs: What Each Needs

  • Ceiling fan capacitor or connection: ratchet screwdriver, stripper, combination pliers, tester and a sturdy ladder. Replace a capacitor with one of the same rating printed on the old one.
  • UPS or inverter installation: stripper, crimping plier, multimeter for battery and output voltage, and a lug crimper for battery cables. Label which sockets and lights are on the UPS circuit.
  • New boards and DB boxes: step drill bits for clean knockouts in metal boxes (the 4–32mm bit has 15 steps), a drill, and the 4-in-1 Laser Level pro 3 (Rs 1,350) to keep every switchboard in a room at the same height. Our laser level price guide covers bigger lasers for whole-house work.
  • Conduit chasing and anchors in RCC: a rotary hammer such as the GBM 2-26 RE (Rs 7,000) in chisel mode for jhari, and hammer-drill mode for anchors. Compare machines in our Hilti machine price guide.
  • Working in a dark room during load-shedding: if you own an 18V–21V slide-on battery tool, the Cordless Power Tool LED Work Light (Rs 1,150) slides onto the battery. Check your battery type against the listing first.

Safety Basics Before You Touch a Wire

  1. Switch off the breaker for that circuit, or the main switch, and tell everyone in the house so nobody switches it back on. Tape over the breaker if you can.
  2. Test before you touch. Check the wires with a tester or multimeter. Check the tester on a known live socket first, so you know it works.
  3. Load-shedding doesn't mean the wires are dead. UPS, inverter and solar circuits stay live when mains power is off, and grid power can come back at any moment. Switch off the UPS or inverter output, and its battery or DC breaker, before working on those circuits.
  4. Rubber grips are for comfort, not protection. None of the pliers or strippers above are listed with a VDE or live-work insulation rating. Never use them on live wires.
  5. Keep hands, floor and shoes dry. Don't work on outdoor wiring in rain.
  6. Mind battery terminals. A plier that bridges two battery terminals can weld itself in place and cause burns. Take off rings and watches, and connect or disconnect in the order the inverter maker specifies.
  7. Leave the meter and service cable alone. They belong to your power distribution company.

Electrician Tool Kits by Budget

  • Starter kit (Rs 5,050): Combination Pliers 60CRV (Rs 1,600), Wire Stripper and Cable Cutter (Rs 1,250) and the 10-in-1 Ratchet Screwdriver (Rs 2,200).
  • Working electrician kit (Rs 11,750): add the Heavy Duty Wire Stripper & Crimping Pliers (Rs 1,800), the TOTAL 16 Inch Tool Bag (Rs 2,300), the HSS Step Drill Bit Set (Rs 1,250) and the 4-in-1 Laser Level pro 3 (Rs 1,350).
  • Add-ons: the 5-in-1 Interchangeable Head Pliers Set (Rs 4,500) for tin sheet and thick cable, the GBM 2-26 RE rotary hammer (Rs 7,000) for chasing and anchors, and the 12V Compact Cordless Drill (Rs 4,200) for screws and step-bit holes.
  • Buy locally: tester screwdriver, multimeter, insulated screwdrivers if you want them, insulation tape, cable ties, connectors, lugs and a lug crimper.

The TOTAL bag has 6 outside and 8 inside pockets and a rigid frame that stays open, with a listed 15kg load capacity, so pliers, meters and bits each get a pocket.

Our Recommendation

If you buy one tool today, make it the Electrician Combination Pliers 60CRV at Rs 1,600: it grips, cuts, strips and crimps. Add the Rs 1,250 wire stripper for fast, clean stripping and the ratchet screwdriver for fan and board work, and build up to the full kit as jobs come in.
